Thatched Cottage, New Upstairs Bathroom.
April 23, 2011Thatched Cottage is a beautiful, well… Thatched cottage on the outskirts of Eccleshall, Staffordshire. It’s the house in first picture that comes up on our homepage and one of the most picturesque we have worked on. Thought to have been built in 1600 it was extended and renovated in the 1980′s. It has new custodians Nigel & Dianne who have done a wonderful job bringing it up to date.
C&S Building services were given the oportunity to undertake the works which were extensive, including a new wet room, new upstairs bathroom, tanking, and lots of general remedial jobs. I will feature some other bits as we go on but for ease and brevity this post will be all about the upstairs bathroom.
Our brief from Dianne was to retain the curved ceiling and the oak beams but to create a stylish and contemporary luxury bathroom, here’s how it started out.
Dianne had chosen a Brindley Soaking Tub from Plumbits in stafford, which we calculated to weigh just under 500kg when full, when the floor joists were exposed they were oak 400 yrs old and way undersized to accomodate the weight. 
We installed a steel ring anchored into the three solid walls and created a plinth to support the bath, insulated the external wall with Celotex PL4000 insulated board providing a u value consistent with modern standards.
We’re really proud of the finished article and hope you’ll agree it looks stunning.
Electrical work was done by Lindops and heating by Gas service.
